Sophie showed interest in soccer this year so we signed her up with AYSO, because they play on Saturdays. I was so excited when we got the last spot, because we were a little late registering. Then, I got a call asking to help co-coach. I explained that I worked practically full time and on weekends, so I couldn't do it. Then she said, "well, the other mom who volunteered doesn't know anything about soccer. Uhhhhhh. Really. I have a PE degree. So, I couldn't let her do it. I suddenly became the coach. Sophie was/is super excited about that. So on my only weekday day off, I have been practicing with the kiddos. It is K-2nd grade. We have six on our team, with 2 of them being girls. It hasn't been as bad as I thought. We lost the first game, tied the second game, and we have won the last 4 games. Sophie Scored a goal last week, but the ref didn't catch it. But we counted it! :) She wasn't as aggressive and coordinated as I thought she would be. But by game three, she was really getting in there. Now we have to tell her to keep those elbows in. Two of the players are quite happy to only play two quarters. We have a good little group. One little boy, Billy, is in kindergarten and he is quite the player. Sophie, took a good kick with the ball to the gut, and I thought she wouldn't want to play again, but she likes it now!
